Richard Zak, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified gastroenterologist at Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC). Dr. Zak earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois, Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in internal medicine. He completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center affiliated with University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) and went on to practice medicine in Northern California. In 2011, he relocated to Pagosa Springs to help develop the endoscopy program at PSMC. Dr. Zak enjoys treating patients with a broad range of gastrointestinal diseases, with particular interest in liver disease and hepatitis C. He has extensive experience treating complex inflammatory bowel disease with advanced therapies and specializes in endoscopy and colonoscopy treatments. Compassion and quality of care are at the core of Dr. Zak’s personal values. As a specialist provider, he appreciates the opportunity to spend quality time working with patients and focuses on treating the individual, rather than just the disease. Dr. Zak and his wife enjoy the serenity and close knit community of Pagosa Springs. He is proud to provide gastroenterology services to enable patients to receive excellent care close to home. In his spare time, Dr. Zak enjoys spending time in the peacefulness of wilderness camping, hiking, and horseback riding.
