Telemedicine
Pagosa Springs Medical Center provides interventional emergent stroke care, acute neurology consultation, as well as assessment and care for patients with emergent mental health needs. Working with a PSMC provider, telehealth technology uses state-of-the-art, real-time video conferencing to provide care by specialists located in metropolitan areas.
A stroke interrupts adequate blood flow to a part of the brain that may result in paralysis, difficulty speaking or other symptoms. Through telemedicine, a neurologist is available within minutes of arrival at PSMC to provide immediate assessment and treatment.
Telemedicine at PSMC provides care for mental health and psychiatric disorders during times of crisis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tele-psychiatrists work with the emergency department physician to assess and recommend treatment, working with other mental health experts if necessary.
What to Expect
1. Patients are seen in the emergency department at PSMC through real-time video conferencing technology.
2. During the visit, a patient’s personal and family history is reviewed and options for testing and treatment are discussed.
3. Transfer to a stroke center may occur after emergent treatment is provided.
4. If testing or further analysis is needed, a follow up appointment may be scheduled.
